Elgin, IL - A northwest suburban man struck by a car early Saturday morning in South Elgin died of injuries from the accident on Monday, according to police.

At about 4:20 a.m. Saturday, Kane County Sheriff’s deputies and South Elgin police responded to a report of a car vs. pedestrian accident on Route 3 near Silver Glenn Road, according to a release from the sheriff's department.

A 2004 Toyota Solara was traveling north on Route 31 when it struck a pedestrian who was walking in the northbound lane of traffic, the release said.

The pedestrian, Daniel Almazan, 20, of the 400 block of Stella Street in Elgin, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin with possible life-threatening injuries. Police were informed Monday morning that he had died.

The driver of the Toyota, Gavin Burke, 28, of the 100 block of Center Street in South Elgin, was uninjured.

The case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department, but no arrests had been made and no charges or citations had been filed as of Monday morning.

Police have not ruled out that alcohol or drugs may have played a role in this crash, but would release no further information.
