Chicago - A new poll shows Mark Kirk and Alexi Giannoulias are in a dead heat in the race for the U.S. Senate seat once held by President Barack Obama.

A poll by the Chicago Tribune shows Kirk and Giannoulias both have 34 percent of the vote.

Of the voters polled in the survey, 22 percent said they are still undecided.

Kirk has been hurt by false claims about his military record.

Giannoulias has suffered because of his ties to a family bank which was shut down by federal regulators.
