Police in south suburban Dolton are investigating the “very suspicious” death of a woman found behind a garage near her home Wednesday morning.
About 10 a.m., Dolton police responded to the 14800 block of South Ellis Avenue to conduct a well-being check on a woman living in the home, Dolton Police Chief Robert Fox said.
Arriving officers noticed a woman in her 50s face-down on the ground behind a garage near the home, Fox said. The woman had no pulse, and was dead on the scene.
Fox could not confirm whether the woman had any trauma to her body, saying only that she had not been shot. However, police do believe the death is “very suspicious” and were looking for the woman’s son Wednesday afternoon.
The son, in his 20s, lived with his mother in the Dolton home and was not in the residence when police arrived.
He has a history of mental illness and the woman’s death is possibly domestic-related, Fox said.
Evidence technicians were probing the home, where the potential crime may have occurred, Fox said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office had not been notified of the fatality as of 4:30 p.m.
Fox said a description of the son would be available Wednesday evening.
