The FBI is seeking the public's help in looking for a former South Side man who has been on the run since being convicted of the 2003 fatal beating of a rival gang member.

Jesus Sanchez, 28, whose last known address was 4841 S. Marshfield Ave. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, is alleged to be a member of the Latin Saints street gang, according to a release from the FBI.

He apparently fled to Mexico after he was released on bond. Sanchez was convicted in absentia of the July 14, 2003 beating death of a 25-year-old Chicago man in an apparent gang-related murder and sentenced to 27 years in prison. His whereabouts remain unknown, the release said.

Sanchez is described as a Hispanic male, about 5-foot-8 and 185 pounds with medium build. He is known on the street as “Shamu” and “Jessie.”

Sanchez should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone recognizing Sanchez or having information about his whereabouts should call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.

This case is being investigated by the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, which is comprised of FBI special agents, Chicago Police detectives Cook County Sheriff’s office investigators.
