Videotaping a Brutal Attack on Teen Girl

"Let go of her hair"

17 year old Mercedes Michaels was pummeled and kicked in what police say was an unprovoked attack that left her bruised and battered, physically and emotionally.

"Right here and right here" She's showing the burn marks on his face.

Mercedes showed us where the girls' branded her face with a car cigarette lighter. They also burned her arm...And that wasn't the end of the assault.

"They cut my hair off, burnt my face, the scars are gonna be on my face for the rest of my life."

It happened at this Sauk Village park Tuesday afternoon. C

hunks of Mercedes' hair are still in the sand. Her mother says she was outraged after seeing the video.

The apparent motive: One of the girls mistakenly thought the boy who dumped her was dating Mercedes.

That girl, 17 year old Sarah Kraft of Park Forest is accused of initiating the attack.

She and 17 year old Marcelena Castillo of Steger who was kicking the victim, are now both charged with aggravated felony battery.

"What part of this was funny?"

"I think that's psychotic. I think they're cowards. It's just sick. And then for them to brag about it afterwards on Myspace...."

A 15 year old, wearing the red shirt, who Mercedes says burned her face and cut off her hair is expected to be one of two juveniles charged.

She blogged about it on Myspace writing: "Ohhh wegot that gurl nasty lol" or laugh out loud.

"It's outrageous, however you look at it, as parent or a police officer, it's an outrageous incident."

Mercedes' mother says she was equally disturbed that the bystanders did nothing to intervene.
