Lansing, IL - A Lansing man accused of killing a member of his own gang by running him over with a sport-utility vehicle on the South Side early Sunday was charged with first-degree murder Thursday.

David Miller, 31, of the 17700 block of South Exchange Avenue in Lansing, allegedly struck and killed Andrew Alayan following an altercation with a rival gang, police said.

Alayan, 35, a known gang member, and other members of the gang to which he belongs approached members of a rival gang as they left a gas station and began beating them with their fists and bats about 1:45 a.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of East 95th Street, police said.

Members of the rival gang attempting to leave the gas station began to retreat to a vehicle when a member of Alayan’s alleged gang tried to run the rivals over with a black SUV, according to police.

Instead of striking the rival gang members, the driver of the SUV accidentally hit Alayan -- allegedly a member of his own gang, police said.

Alayan, of an unidentified home address in Lansing, was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Miller was identified as the driver of the SUV and charged early Thursday, police said. He will appear in bond court later Thursday.

Calumet Area detectives investigated the incident.
