Chicago, IL. - A man who allegedly shot his brother and father during a domestic dispute, then holed up inside a nearby West Side home was ordered held on $1 million bond on Monday.
The bond was set for Mosiah Johnson, 21, of the 3000 block of Lexington Street, who is charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
Emergency crews originally responded to a shooting at 3037 W. Lexington St. -- where Mosiah Johnson lives with his brother and father -- at about 12:20 p.m. Saturday, Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said.
Johnson allegedly shot his 16-year-old brother and 55-year-old father during an argument in the home, a law enforcement source said. Relatives said the gunman is bipolar.
He then allegedly fled to a relative’s home in the 1800 block of South Ridgeway Avenue, police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said.
A Hostage Barricade Terrorist Incident unit was initially sent to the home and the situation was resolved within a couple of hours, according to Taylor. Johnson was taken into custody without incident.
The shooting victims were initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, MacGregor said. According to unconfirmed fire dispatch reports, one of them suffered two gunshot wounds to the abdomen and the other suffered a gunshot wound to the neck. Both were reportedly talking and conscious as they were taken to the hospital.
Police said early Monday that both are in "serious but stable” condition.
A relative identified the victims as 16-year-old Malcolm Johnson and his father, Milton Johnson, a social worker who sometimes works with the mentally ill.
Malcolm Johnson’s sister said her brother, a sophomore at Manley High, was shot trying to protect their father.
Mosiah Johnson is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. June 12 in Domestic Violence Court (Br. 64) at555 W. Harrison, Conklin said.
Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
