Joliet, IL. - Police say DNA evidence has led to the arrest of a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a teenager last year in southwest suburban Joliet.

Joliet police Chief Fred Hayes said William L. Seleski, 37, was living with the now 15-year-old victim and her relatives in the Riverside subdivision when the assault occurred.

"This happened three times in June 2008 before the victim came forward to her mother who contacted us and took her to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet," Hayes said.

Detectives conducted interviews, while crime scene technicians examined the girl's bedroom to recover DNA evidence. The victim was interviewed at the Will County Child Advocacy Center and by the Department of Children and Family Services.

Hayes said Seleski did not cooperate with detectives.

"When they knocked on his door, he declined to speak to investigators [based] upon the advice of his attorney," Hayes said.

In February, police obtained a search warrant to swab Seleski for DNA and sent those results to be matched against items from the victim's room.

"The results matched and last week a judge authorized an arrest warrant on two counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse with a $250,000 bond," Hayes said.

Seleski, of 839 Preston Lane in Oswego, arranged to surrender to police through his lawyer. He was placed into custody at 12:40 p.m. Thursday. Reports indicate he posted $25,000 bail and was released.
