Chicago, IL. - A northwest Indiana man who attempted to carry a loaded handgun into the Taste of Chicago over the weekend was order held on $75,000 bond during a Monday hearing.
Shrome D. George, 25, of the 3400 block of S. Salem Ct. in Michigan City, Ind., was arrested after he was found to be carrying a fully loaded .9mm handgun as he attempted to enter the Taste through one of the security checkpoints Saturday evening, according to a release from police.
Police were tipped off by an anonymous citizen and George was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon on a public street, possession of ammunition without a valid Firearm Owner's ID card and related weapons charges, the release said.
Bond was set at $75,000, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin. George will next appear for a preliminary hearing on July 6 in North Felony Court (Br. 42).
