Woman Stalks, Assaults Former Professor

A former Harold Washington College student was arrested Sunday and charged with stalking her former professor and threatening the professor with a crowbar Sunday on the South Side.

Cook County James Brown ordered Shirley Williams held on $90,000 bond, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said. If she is able to post bail, the judge ordered that she have no contact with the female professor.

Williams was charged with felony stalking, Simonton said.

Williams, of 7620 S. Coles Ave., was arrested in the 6500 block of South Woodlawn Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and the charges were approved at 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to the report.

She allegedly went to her former professor’s South Side home Sunday at 10 a.m. and police were contacted and responded to the scene after she apparently caused a disturbance.

Williams was transported to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center for a psychological evaluation but after a few hours she was discharged. After being discharged, she allegedly went back to the professor’s home with a crowbar.

At the home, she allegedly confronted the woman and threatened to physically hit her with a crowbar and allegedly said that she was “going to kick her a--’’ according to the report. A witness said he physically intervened and disarmed Williams.

She was arrested at 5:30 p.m. and taken back to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, according to the report.

The professor told police that Williams was expelled from Harold Washington College in August, 2008 after Williams made multiple attempts to come in contact with the professor, according to the report.

Williams has been barred from the college and has a pending case involving the college in which she was charged with criminal trespass to land, Simonton said. Her next court date has been set for June 19 in the trespassing case.
