'Daybreak Bandit' Strikes Joliet Bank

A man who is suspected in three suburban bank robberies is believed to have struck again, this time at a bank in Joliet Wednesday morning.

The man, dubbed the "Daybreak Bandit" by the FBI, is believed responsible for bank robberies in Romeoville, Plainfield and Hinsdale from March of last year up to last month, according to the FBI.

At 7:05 a.m. on Wednesday, he is believed to have robbed the Harris Bank branch, 207 N. Midland in Joliet, according to the FBI.

He was hiding behind the dumpster by the bank and approached the employees as they were opening the branch for the day, according to the FBI. He told them he was armed, then forced them to open the bank. He went right to the vault, and took an undisclosed amount of money.

The robber got away on foot. No getaway vehicle was seen.

The man was described as a black or Hispanic, in his mid-20s, 5-foot-5, 170 pounds, with dark eyes and black curly hair, dark glasses, a grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up over his head and a black leather jacket over the hoodie. He also had a dark scarf pulled up to his nose.

A $20,000 reward has been offered for information on the three previous bank robberies.
