Illinois Residents Urged to Get This Year's Flu Vaccine

Chicago - Flu season is approaching and Illinois public health experts have advice for residents as vaccines begin to arrive in the state.

The Illinois Department of Public Health says this season residents need only one flu vaccine. That's because this year's vaccine includes swine flu and two other flu strains. The department recommends vaccinations for everyone aged six months and older.

Health experts say young children, pregnant women, those with chronic health conditions and senior citizens are priority for receiving a flu vaccine.

Flu vaccines will be available at local health departments statewide along with doctor's offices, pharmacies, health clinics and hospitals.

State health officials say it's not too early to get a vaccine. They say a September vaccination will protect throughout the season.
