First came Dr. Phil, then came Rachael Ray, and now Oprah Winfrey has spun off another of the contributors from her talk show into a program of their own. Dr. Mehmet Oz's innovative take on health and medical issues premiered here on Fox Chicago and across the nation last week. Tonight our Mark Saxenmeyer takes us behind-the-scenes to show us just how Dr. Oz hopes to become the wizard of daytime TV.

***************************

Just one week into his very own talk show and Dr. Oz is talking about subjects no one else will touch.

“As a doctor I want you to have an orgasm, so today we're going to talk about poop” says Dr. Oz.

“It's got a little attitude, it's got a lot--it's a high octane show that we are creating. So people are going to get jazzed up and excited because it's real stuff that you can use and act on.  It’s a no embarrassment zone. If it's a topic that might help you lead a better life, and you are embarrassed about asking it, I ought to address it for you" says Dr. Oz.

Of course, Oz wouldn't be here if not for the notoriety he gained on Oprah. His 22 guest appearances on her show last season alone, always dressed in surgical scrubs, made him memorable, instantly recognizable. Turns out, the scrubs were all part of Dr. Oz's clever master plan to attain fame.

“It's all about getting the message across to you in a way that makes you comfortable so you actually hear it and resonate to it. The scrubs had that affect. And because they were iconic people identified them with me and they knew when they were flipping through the channels and they came upon me,' hey that's the guy, that’s him' even if they did not know my name they knew I was the guy that was going to entertain them and show them information that they probably wanted to hear.

And when I don't have an answer I always call somebody who does....

Oz has assembled a team of well known contributors to his show.

For fitness, Bob Harper, the trainer from the "Biggest Loser"

And the best in the field of beauty is Tim Gunn, the fashion guru from "Project Runway"

And straight from Chicago, is one of the country's leading sex therapists, Dr. Laura Berman.

In fact, for every subject this cardiac surgeon isn't particularly versed in, he has a staff of dozens of medical students researching the answers behind the scenes.

They are taking a year off from their studies to work with us, they're smart as can be, and they’re really connected. Says Susan Wagner, the show’s supervising producer “and they know how to search for zany, wacky, crazy ideas too”

But what about Dr. Michael Roizen? Loyal Oprah viewers know Dr. Roizen was always at Dr. Oz's side during his appearances on her show. The two best friends have hosted radio programs and written best-selling books together. So where did Roizen go? Where is his TV show?

“We agreed together for a talk show like this to work, that it needed to be one person who was your doctor. Because when you go to the doctor’s office, there is one person that you are looking for advice from. And so he, as selfless and he always has been, sacrificed himself to let me host this show.

Time will tell whether the Dr. Oz show will thrive or flat line. He's confident, though he admits his style might not be for everyone.

“Are we going to say things on the show that are, you know, going to tick off some doctors once in a while? Of course we're going to say those things.

“What I want to do is get a conversation going. That's how this show penetrates into the very fabric of America. “Added Oz.
