Dr. Mehmet Oz Has Colon Cancer Scare During Taping of His Show

FOX Chicago News

Chicago - Dr. Mehmet Oz had a cancer scare, FOX Chicago News has learned.

Oz was undergoing a routine colonoscopy as part of the show that will kick off his new season, when his doctor found a pre-cancerous polyp, or growth.

The growth was removed.

Regular screening for colorectal cancer can help find cancer early, when it’s more likely to be curable. That’s because the screening can find polyps and remove them before they have a chance to turn into cancer.

If you’re curious about what happens before, during and after a colonoscopy, check out about.com . Folks in FOX Chicago’s newsroom who have undergone the procedure said that prepping for the procedure is worse than the colonoscopy itself.

Oz said the news was quite a shakeup. He had apparently been putting off the screening, but finally decided to have it done during a taping of The Dr. Oz Show.

He will talk about his cancer scare coming up on his show’s season premier, Sept. 7.

The Dr. Oz Show airs on FOX Chicago.

On September 10, FOX will work with ABC, NBC, and CBS to broadcast "Stand Up To Cancer," a multi-network effort to raise money to fund cancer research.
