That's when I knew I had to move to Chicago. From the people to the places - It is my favorite city in the world. I am originally from the South. I grew up in DeLand, Florida. If you haven't heard of it - it's a small town in Central Florida right in between Daytona Beach and Orlando. It's also the home of Stetson University.
I love spending time outdoors. As a kid - my family couldn't keep me inside and they definitely couldn't keep me quiet. I was determined get out and meet everyone I could in the neighborhood. Anytime someone had a story they wanted everyone to know - my Mom says they didn't use the telephone - they just had to 'Tell-a-Tera'. Thanks Mom.
My love for meeting new people and sharing their stories is what got me interested in becoming a reporter and going to Journalism school at The University of Florida in Gainesville. Go Gators! After graduation I worked at the ABC affiliate in town, WCJB, as an anchor, reporter and I even started my own cooking show.
I joined the FOX family in 2004 at WGHP in High Point, North Carolina. What a great place! I met some of the most incredible people in North Carolina and covered everything from breaking news to my most memorable story - the implosion of the Burlington Industries building. Google it - it was a textiles landmark in that area. I can't explain exactly what it felt like being that close to thousands and thousands of pounds of exploding dynamite... but it was pretty cool.
In December of 2006, I was offered the incredible opportunity to join the team here at FOX Chicago. I have covered some very memorable stories over the years... some happy, some sad and some... well, let's just say weird.
The Cicada invasion in the spring of 2007. I ate a live one.
Cold and wild weather. My co-worker Eddie Bartlett and I actually chased a tornado!
Lane Bryant/Tinley Park Murders
Northern Illinois Shootings
Jennifer Hudson's family tragedy
The fight for Obama's open Senate seat
Rod Blagojevich
Drew Peterson
The Inauguration in Washington
I am a general assignment reporter so that means I cover anything and everything and every day is different. It's why I love my job!
When I'm not working... I love riding my bike, catching up with old and new friends on facebook, trying new restaurants, cooking, fishing, playing golf, and watching sports. I am a HUGE Gator fan and try to get back to 'The Swamp' every chance I get to see my National Champions play ball!
I love animals and encourage people to adopt a pet. I have a white boxer, Rudy. He is named after Rudy Giuliani because he was born on September 11th, 2001. Rudy's favorite Chicago spot - 'Wiggly' field.
I can honestly say - there is no place like Chicago and I am so proud to call this city my home. Please stop and say hello if you see me out and about or if you have a story idea - you can email me at tera.williams@foxtv.com - I would love to hear from you!
