LOS ANGELES (AP) - Nneka Ogwumike scored 21 points to help the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Indiana Fever 77-73 last night. Ogwumike scored the final four points for the Sparks. Indiana had chances to tie in the final seconds but Briann January missed twice. Indiana had to foul after it could not secure the rebound on Karima Christmas' intentionally missed free throw.
CHICAGO (AP) - Tsuyoshi Wada earned his first big league win by pitching seven strong innings last night as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Colorado Rockies 4-1. Anthony Rizzo drove in two runs to back Wada. The sole blemish on Wada's performance came in the sixth when the Rockies got three hits.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired second baseman Darwin Barney in a trade with the Chicago Cubs. Barney won a Gold Glove in 2012 after tying the major league single-season record with 141 consecutive errorless games. The last-place Cubs sent Barney and cash to NL West-leading Los Angeles for a player to be named.
DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a three-year contract with Tomas Tatar after the left wing was second on the team in goals last season. Tatar's deal is worth $2.75 million per year. The forward had 19 goals and 20 assists in 73 games in his first full season in the NHL. Only Gustav Nyquist scored more goals for Detroit with 28.
