ORIOLES-TIGERS

Orioles hit Verlander hard, beat Tigers 5-2

DETROIT (AP) - J.J. Hardy and Adam Jones homered off Justin Verlander, and Manny Machado added a double and two sparkling plays at third base to lead the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.

Hardy hit his third homer off Verlander (8-5) this month, connecting for a two-run shot in the fourth inning, and Jones added a three-run drive in the fifth.

Zach Britton (1-1) allowed a run and five hits in 5 1-3 innings after being called up earlier in the day from the minors to make this start.

Four Baltimore relievers finished. Jim Johnson pitched the ninth for his 26th save in 30 chances.

Verlander gave up five runs and seven hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out five.

RED WINGS-DATSYUK

Pavel Datsyuk, Red Wings agree on 3-year extension

DETROIT (AP) - Pavel Datsyuk and the Detroit Red Wings have an agreement on a 3-year contract.

The Red Wings said Tuesday they had agreed to terms on a deal to keep Datsyuk through the 2016-17 season. He can't sign the contract until July 5 because he was entering the last year of his current deal.

The Russian superstar has said he wanted to stay with the Red Wings instead of returning home to play following the 2013-14 season.

Datsyuk led Detroit with 15 goals and 49 points in the 48-game, lockout-shortened season. He tied for third on the team with nine points in the postseason, which ended in the second round against Chicago. He helped the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in 2002 as a rookie and again in 2008.

WHITE SOX-TWINS

Mauer, Doumit lead Twins over White Sox

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Ryan Doumit hit a go-ahead double in the eighth inning, leading the Minnesota Twins over the Chicago White Sox 7-5 on Tuesday night.

Joe Mauer homered and Trevor Plouffe had an RBI single in Minnesota's four-run first inning off Dylan Axelrod.

The White Sox came back to tie it at 5 in the eighth when Alex Rios worked a leadoff walk from reliever Jared Burton (1-4), stole second and scored on Paul Konerko's single that bounced off the pitcher's mound and into center field.

Clete Thomas walked with two outs against Ramon Troncoso (0-2) in the eighth. Mauer followed with a single - his third hit of the game - and Doumit doubled. Doumit also had three hits.

NBA FINALS

James helps Heat stave off elimination in Game 6

MIAMI (AP) - LeBron James shrugged off a poor start to get 32 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, Ray Allen hit a 3-pointer with 5.2 seconds to play to force overtime and the Miami Heat staved off elimination with a 103-100 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night.

James missed 9 of his first 12 shots, but scored 16 points in the fourth to rally the Heat from a 10-point deficit. The Heat trailed 94-89 with 28 seconds to play, but James hit a 3 with 20 seconds to go and Allen drilled another to tie it.

James' layup with 1:43 to play in overtime gave the Heat a 101-100 lead, and Allen added two free throws to force Game 7, which is on Thursday night in Miami.
