MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera hit back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning to help the Detroit Tigers win 8-6 over the Minnesota Twins last night. Kyle Ryan earned the victory by recording the last out of the eighth. Joakim Soria converted his first save opportunity since being acquired for the Tigers despite allowing a leadoff double to Kurt Suzuki.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell says he does not expect rookie cornerback Nevin Lawson to return this season after he went down with dislocated toes Sunday. Caldwell said foot specialist Bob Anderson was at the game and evaluated Lawson. The Lions drafted Lawson in the fourth round this year out of Utah State.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Michigan coach Brady Hoke spoke calmly after the Wolverines' 34-10 home win over Miami (Ohio) over the weekend. Hoke says it was good to get back on the field and he liked the effort he saw from his team. Michigan ranks first in the Big Ten in total defense through three games but faces a Utah offense this Saturday at Michigan Stadium.

JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - Officials in Jackson are looking at an idea to bring a baseball team to the city. RW Mercer CFO Dan DuBois also spent 14 seasons in finances and planning at Michigan International Speedway. He says he's "always a baseball guy, and it's always been in the back of my mind." DuBois says the area might be able to attract a Frontier League expansion team.
