CHICAGO (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs renew their rivalry with a three-game weekend series at Wrigley Field. Joe Kelly of the Cardinals will match up against Travis Wood of the Cubs in the Friday afternoon opener. The two teams have played nine times this season with the Cards winning five and the Cubs four.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - John Danks gets the pitching assignment Friday night for the Chicago White Sox as they continue a series in Minnesota against the Twins. Sox first baseman Jose Abreu (uh-BRAY'-oo) will try to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Former Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas and ex-Chicago Cubs pitcher Greg Maddux take their places in baseball's Hall of Fame on Sunday. The other inductees at Cooperstown this weekend include two former St. Louis Cardinals managers -- Tony La Russa and Joe Torre.

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (AP) - The Chicago Bears are on the field for their first training camp workouts after overhauling their defense in the offseason. The Bears finished 8-8 last season and missed the playoffs despite a high-powered offense -- mainly because their defense ranked among the worst in the NFL. They've signed star defensive end Jared Allen.
