CHICAGO (AP) - The Cubs play the first of four games at home this week against the Colorado Rockies. The Cubs' Tsuyoshi Wada and the Rockies' Yohan Flande will each try for their first career victories. The Cubs last lost to the Cardinals 1-0, while the Rockies are coming off a 7-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
CHICAGO (AP) - While the Chicago White Sox have dealt with injuries in their bullpen this year, manager Robin Ventura has juggled whatever healthy relievers he has. Five different pitchers have earned saves for Chicago, and nobody has more than eight. Ventura says the way things are now, it works better that nobody really has a defined role.
CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) - Adidas will be supplying Eastern Illinois University athletic programs with game and practice uniforms and travel and practice gear starting this fall. That's after the Charleston school has inked a five-year deal with the athletic wear company. Adidas will be the Panthers' official source for footwear, apparel and accessories. The contract lasts through the 2019 season.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals are coming off a weekend in which they won two of their three games at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs. They're two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central, and those two teams will open the month of August with a three-game series in St. Louis that starts Friday night.
