CHICAGO (AP) - Jose Abreu hit a pair of run-scoring singles against Cleveland ace Corey Kluber as the Chicago White Sox beat the Indians 3-2 last night. Abreu put Chicago ahead for good in the seventh with his third hit of the game. Adam Eaton doubled with one out off Kluber and advanced on Alexei Ramirez's groundout. Abreu then drove in his AL-high 96th run.

CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds withstood Jorge Soler's first-at-bat homer and an RBI single for a 7-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs last night. Skip Schumaker drove in a pair of runs. Soler hit a 2-1 pitch into the Reds' bullpen in center field. Soler also had an RBI single off Jonathan Broxton in the eighth.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Jeff Locke outpitched Adam Wainwright as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 yesterday to close in the NL wild-card race. Ike Davis hit his 10th homer in the second after Wainwright hit Russell Martin on the left elbow with a pitch that Martin barely tried to avoid. Davis sent an 88 mph pitch clanking off a speaker raised on a pole.

CINCINNATI (AP) - The Chicago Cubs put outfielders Ryan Sweeney and Justin Ruggiano on the 15-day disabled list yesterday before the second game of their series against the Cincinnati Reds. Sweeney had to leave the Cubs' 3-0 victory on Tuesday with a pulled hamstring. Ruggiano hadn't played since last week because of a sore left ankle.
